FAQ'S

WHAT IS PLANTABLE SEED PAPER?

Plantable seed paper is special handmade paper embedded with vegetable seeds. When the paper is planted in a pot of soil, vegetables will grow from the paper, amazing right!

Please note that because our paper is made by hand, there may be a slight variation in the thickness from sheet to sheet. Due to the post-consumer waste fiber content, a slight variation in the shade of the paper may also occur.

HOW DO I GROW MY OWN CARROTS FROM YOUR BOOK?

It’s really simple, place your page on soil that is slightly compressed, but not too hard-packed. Add 4mm of soil on top of the paper and give it a good drink of water. After that, make sure it’s always moist and in a sunny spot. You should see sprouts within 7-10 days and a full carrot growing too big for their bed after about 6 weeks.

WHERE IS THE WILLSOW SEED BOOK MADE?

The seed book is made by Willday printers, a family business that has been passed through 4 generations and been going strong for 76 years. The dream of creating a seed book for children (and adults!) had been burning away for a while and after a couple of pints of Guinness, Thomas Willday and his friend decided they would give it a go and turn their dream into a reality. They had one prototype made and haven’t stopped crafting them since.

WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF THE WILLSOW BOOK?

For best germination results, seed books should be planted within 2 years. It will still grow beyond that, but the germination rates will decline after that period. Store in a cool, dry place, to preserve the germination rates as long as possible.

WHAT IS OUR SEED PAPER BOOK MADE FROM?

All our seed paper is made with 100% donated materials from a variety of sources such as schools and business to help save trees and reduce waste sent to landfills. A large amount of the paper is made from recycled material, to be as eco-friendly as possible and to try and ensure your carrots aren’t the last of a generation. Every aspect of a Willsow product is 100% biodegradable, from the ink used to print the text to the cotton that binds the pages together.

WHAT INKS DO WE USE WITH THE WILLSOW BOOKS?

The inks Willsow print with are vegetable-based and the dyes in the ink are organic and readily decompose.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO PLANT THE PAPER?

Spring is the best time to plant if you live in an area where the ground does not freeze. However, Autumn is ideal if you live in a climate where the ground stays frozen for several months. Willsow seed paper can be planted indoors year-round in a pot of soil near a window that gets plenty of sunlight and is given plenty of water to drink.

ARE THE SEEDS SAFE FOR PLANTING?

Yes, Willsow only use seeds that are tested and approved for planting in the UK, the US, EU, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and many other countries worldwide.

ARE THE SEEDS IN THE PAPER NON-GMO?

Yes, Willsow seed paper only contains seeds that are of the highest quality. All the seeds we use are NON-GMO (genetically modified organism).
